Accommodation and Facilities
School at The Shires is in session for 51 weeks of the year, with a week's break at Christmas, which provides students with the level of consistency in their education that is vital to them achieving excellent progress.
The school provides a vibrant and purposeful learning environment for students. The air-conditioned classrooms are well equipped with modern, sturdy furniture and a good range of relevant resources. Teaching areas are uncluttered and well ordered and students have access to individual work stations.
Three of the classrooms are equipped with interactive whiteboards, and the fourth classroom is geared towards practical activities. All classrooms have computers and internet access and students are encouraged to use these for learning and leisure. Staff work closely with the therapy team to use technology to develop each individual's motor, communication and ICT skills.
The newly built classroom opens onto a large outdoor area and all students have access to a newly developed vegetable garden.

There are extensive grounds with plenty of outdoor space for play and recreation. The premises and accommodation are of very good quality.
