Guidance, behaviour management

Students coming to The Shires at Stretton are often referred to the school because of the problems they have in maintaining and controlling their own behaviour. They often have little social understanding and do not understand the rules that govern society and community living. Many do not have empathy and they find it difficult to understand their own emotions and the emotions and feelings of others.

The behaviour of some of the students is unpredictable and can sometimes be aggressive and destructive. These problems are often part of the students’ autistic difficulties and are compounded by the severe learning difficulties that all of the students at the school have. Because behaviour is an area of such extreme difficulty for the students the school has a positive focus on teaching good behaviour, both through individual behaviour plans and through the curriculum.

What Ofsted says...

Behaviour management is excellent and this means students’ behaviour is exemplary, given their difficulties.
