Guidance and behaviour management
We aim to promote self-discipline and an understanding of social behaviours and to encourage good behaviour and respect for others. Students are encouraged to experience all kinds of social situations so that they can learn what is appropriate behaviour in different settings, for example, when eating out, travelling on public transport, or playing on the beach.
Staff supervise the students very well, allowing them to enjoy experiences, but ensuring that the students and others are kept safe.
All forms of bullying among the students are prevented and staff ensure each student's standard of behaviour is as socially acceptable as possible. The Shires has a system of rewards, commendations and praise, but no sanctions. Sanctions are inappropriate for pupils at the Shires and are not used under any circumstances.
What Ofsted says...
Staff management of behaviour is outstanding and students respond well to the instructions given and adhere to the boundaries that are set.
